If you’ve been told you need a dental crown and you’re considering a CEREC same-day crown, one of the first questions you might ask is: “Will my insurance cover it?”
At Dental Arts Hawaii, we recognize that dental costs play a significant role in the decision-making process. Here's what you need to know about insurance coverage for CEREC crowns and how you can plan for your treatment.
First Things First: What Are CEREC Crowns?

CEREC crowns are high-quality, all-ceramic dental crowns made right in our office using advanced 3D scanning and milling technology. Unlike traditional crowns that require multiple visits, CEREC crowns are completed in a single appointment, with no temporary crown needed.
So, Are CEREC Crowns Covered by Insurance?
In most cases, yes, dental insurance plans do cover CEREC crowns the same way they cover traditional crowns. Here's how it usually works:
✅ Coverage typically ranges from 30% to 60% depending on your plan and whether you've met your deductible.
✅ Most insurance companies don’t differentiate between CEREC and lab-made crowns, as long as the crown is medically necessary.
✅ The exact coverage depends on your dental insurance policy.
Things to Check in Your Plan
To avoid surprises, here are a few things to look for or ask about:
Is crown coverage included? Some basic plans may not cover crowns unless they’re medically necessary.
Is there a waiting period? If you’re on a new plan, you might have to wait a few months before major restorative work is covered.
Have you reached your annual maximum? Most dental plans have a yearly cap on how much they’ll pay out.
Does your provider cover ceramic or porcelain crowns? Since CEREC crowns are all-ceramic, make sure your plan doesn’t limit coverage to metal or PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) crowns.
